The Psychology of Eating

“Simply put, what we eat is only half of the story of good nutrition”.

Mind Body Nutrition

The Coaching I have been trained in is an exciting and cutting-edge approach developed by the Institute for the Psychology of Eating.

It effectively addresses weight concerns, binge eating, overeating, body image challenges, and various nutrition-related health concerns. My approach is positive and empowering.

I don’t see your eating challenges merely as a sign that “something is wrong with you” – but as a place where we can more fully explore some of the personal dimensions in life that impact food, weight and health.

Oftentimes, our eating challenges are connected to work, money, relationship, family, intimacy, life stress, and so much more. By working on the places that are most relevant to you, success is more easily achieved. I look to support you with coaching strategies and nutrition principles that are nourishing, doable, sustainable, and that yield results.

Questions? Here’s some answers.

  • The Coaching I have been trained in is an exciting and cutting edge approach developed by the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. It effectively addresses weight concerns, emotional eating, binge eating, overeating, body image challenges, and various nutrition related health concerns.

My approach is positive and empowering. I don’t see your eating challenges merely as a sign that “something is wrong with you” – but as a place where we can more fully explore some of the personal dimensions in life that impact food, weight and health.

  • For far too long, we’ve been inundated by negative messages about food, weight, and diet.

We’ve been told that we’re willpower weaklings or that we need more control. Many nutrition experts promote conflicting advice. The result is people are confused about what to eat, and how to have a happy relationship with food and a healthy metabolism. In my professional practice, I combine many of the best strategies from nutrition science and eating psychology. By eliminating all the “shoulds and shouldn’ts”, I focus on what’s right for your body and your personal style.

As we work together in this way, eating and health issues become a place of exploration. Instead of seeing such challenges as the enemy, they become opportunities for growth and self-improvement.

In my training at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, I’ve learned to help clients reach their highest goals not by strategies that punish, but through strategies that nourish.

  • I trained at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, the world’s leading school in Nutritional Psychology, where I received my certification in Mind Body Nutrition and Dynamic Eating Psychology. In IPE's internationally acclaimed program, I learned powerful cutting-edge tools and protocols that enable me to work with weight issues, body image challenges, overeating, binge eating, and a variety of nutrition related health concerns, such as digestion, fatigue, mood, immunity, and others.

My work combines the powerful fields of Dynamic Eating Psychology and Mind Body Nutrition. The skills I use from this Training are a combination of practical coaching techniques, results-oriented psychology, clinical nutrition, body-centered practices, mind body science, and a positive and compassionate approach to challenges with food and health.

  • Coaching sessions are individually tailored to support you, your body and your lifestyle. So not a one size fits all approach….

Challenges with food, body or health are often rooted elsewhere in our lives, so we’ll take a holistic approach and explore where life may be asking you to pay attention…where life may be inviting you to step up and grow..

My aim is for our time together to be Empowering, Inspiring, Supportive, Transformative, Fun, Life changing & Life Enhancing

We’ll start with an initial Intake Session which will last around 90 – 120 mins. (and if this sounds way too intense we can do it over 2 one hour sessions – no problem…) The purpose of the Intake Session is to explore:

    • what success would look like for you at the end of the coaching

    • your health concerns and what’s getting in your way (or is it your mind, body eating challenges and what’s getting in your way?)

    • your current and past eating habits and patterns

    • what you want most in your life – your hopes and dreams

    • who you want to become next – the future fabulous ou!

You’ll leave the session with greater clarity around your current habits and patterns and some simple, inspiring action steps to help you get to where you want to go.

  • This is tailored entirely to you and really depends on what we work on together. It could be as simple as 3 sessions or it may take 6 or more.

You can book a block or 3 or 6 sessions or we can simply take it session by session.

There will come a time when either you, me or both of us agree that you’ve achieved what you set out to achieve.

  • This is tailored entirely to you and how much support you would like to have between sessions.

Typically we’d meet every 2-3 weeks. Some clients prefer a weekly session and some monthly,

but mostly every 2-3 weeks seems to work really well.

  • Usually by Zoom or if geography allows it’s always good to meet face to face.

  • Again, these are individually tailored to you. I don’t have a standard one-size fits all approach and get quite creative with this when we partner together. You won’t be asked to do anything you aren’t inspired to do between sessions – we’ll agree the next steps together.

Experiments could include adding in some breathing or relaxation, experimenting with how your body likes to move, focusing on really tasting and enjoying your meals. Action steps could include journaling questions or creating a pleasure inventory, or connecting with your inner critic and getting to know her a little better…

  • No – I do the opposite of this. I work with you to help you get away from all the counting, measuring and weighing of foods.

This is all part of the ‘diet culture’ that takes up way too much energy. It might feel scary if this is what you’re used to doing, but imagine a life where you are able to tap into your own body’s wisdom and tune into what your body needs to feel nourished and fabulous.
